BULLET POINTS
At the shooting range, you prepare yourself for the final evaluation to be qualified by law to carry a handgun concealed on your person. Standing at your designated lane with your handgun at the ready position, you're given the command to fire. A few rounds then impact the target which is only about four yards away. Shoot the target with 100% accuracy two or three times and you now have the blessing to carry concealed.
As Americans, it is recognized that we have this God-given right to carry firearms and protect ourselves. However, just because the right to defend ourselves is present, the ability to do so may not be. So many people carry their handguns with a false sense of security and a lack of competence. Should an incident occur, they may find themselves not prepared to fill the proverbial shoes they believe they possess.
I am not claiming that the fix-all solution is a mere addition of qualifications to carry a firearm, however, I am declaring that those who are qualified, should never be satisfied with the level of ability they currently possess. I wish to also make known that the test put on by the state does not make us skilled gunfighters.
A concealed carrier who is incompetent with their gun is like someone who cuts with a dull knife. It can be dangerous because it is not working at an appropriately efficient level. The more experience we have with our firearm, the more we realize we do not have enough experience with our firearm.
CONCLUSION
Seek out quality training with your firearm and build competence. As it’s locked away in the safe, not practiced with or handled, it will surely be accompanied with our untapped potential to be better.
